Health and Safety Orientation

To familiarize with general safe work practices and general safety rules to acquaint with safety legislation and worker duties. SUpervisors and managers must provide Job Specific Training and Orientation to all new employees.

Job Specific Orientation must be designed to:

  • Introduce the worker to the work envoronment;
  • familiarize the new worker with job specific hazards and means to control those hazards;
  • familiarize the worker with relevant safe work practices and safe work procedures;
  • test the workers compentency with respect to the operation of a hazardous tool or equipment (eg. chainsaw, peice of lab equipment)

The Department of Health and Safety has complied an Orentation Checklist for all supervisors to assist with introducing new workers to the workplace.
