Climate

Don't be put off by what you hear about Newfoundland weather!

Sure, it can be windy, rainy or foggy in St. John's on any given day - but that can change quickly to blue skies and sunshine by lunch time.

We have what's known as a temperate climate. Winters here are generally mild with an average temperature of 0 degrees Celsius.

During the summer months, the temperature can go from cool to hot with an average of 20 - 23 degrees Celsius. Even on the hottest day, there's always an ocean breeze to keep you comfortable.

On average, the annual rainfall is 1191 millimetres and annual snowfall is 322 centimetres.

Arts and Culture

Live music, live theatre...St. John's is filled with cultural diversity and many unique experiences that make life in this city like no other.

The Arts and Culture Centre

St. Johns' premier theatre experience, featuring dozens of theatrical and musical presentations throughout the year. Also home to the AC Hunter Library, and the Basement theatre as well. And all of this, just a few moments from the main campus.

The LSPU (Longshoremen's Protective Union) Hall

Run by Newfoundland's Resource Centre for the Arts (RCA), 'The Hall', as it's known around town is home to numerous theatrical and film events over the year, and features an art gallery.

The Rooms

The Rooms is home to the province's museum, art gallery and archives, as well as many traveling exhibits. You'll also find the best indoor view of the Narrows here!

Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador

Take a night off and enjoy a reading by one of the province's many authors or a visiting writer from Canada or beyond. Scheduled monthly readings and special events are happening year round.

In St. John's you'll also find festivals and concerts around every bend, no matter the season.
