The use of power bars or extension cords in the university is strongly discouraged due to the following safety concerns: 

• the likelihood of circuit overloading;
• the possibility of building electrical service overloading;
• using power bars and extension cords is unsuitable for a particular application; and
• in many cases, power bars and extension cords are used for applications for which additional outlets would be more appropriate.

If you still need to purchase a power bar call Work Control at 709-864-7600 or e-mail facman@mun.ca who will determine if the intended use is appropriate. The maximum length of power bars used on campus will be 6 feet and cannot be plugged into each other to make longer cords.

Power bars cannot be purchased on a procurement card.
