Roberto Martinez Espineira is a Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University in St. John's, NL, Canada. Before coming to MUN, he worked, from 2001 to 2009 at the Economics Department of St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He obtained his undergraduate Economics degree at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Santiago de Compostela, Spain), before completing his MSc in Environmental Economics (1997) and DPhil (2001) at the Environment Department of the University of York's (York, UK).

Research Highlights

One of his main lines of research involves the estimation of water demand functions and other problems related to water demand and water pricing. Another line of his work deals with the valuation of natural resources and other non-marketed goods and services. Some of his current projects include the estimation of non-use values of wildlife species, the valuation of the benefits of Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture in salmon farming, and the reduction of the risk of moose-vehicle-collisions.
