Memorial University has one of the largest and most diverse Earth Science departments in Canada. With 21 faculty members, 10 staff members, and leading-edge teaching and research facilities, the department is able to offer high quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Graduates of Memorial's Earth Sciences department have gone on to careers in academia, government, and the private sector.

Meet Dr. Alison Malcom

Dr. Alison Malcolm hails from Burnaby, B.C. where she completed a B.Sc. (hons) in Geophysics from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines.

After her studies, Dr. Malcolm held post-doctoral fellowships with the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, University of Minnesota, and at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Prior to coming to Memorial she was an assistant professor of Geophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She is currently an associate professor with the Department of Earth Sciences and the Chevron Chair in Reservoir Characterization, specializing in seismic imaging and wave propagation. Dr. Malcolm is now working on a joint program with math and geoscience related to offshore oil and gas.
