Abstract:

Infantile spasms is a type of epilepsy in children occurring in the infancy period. Ketogenic diet has emerged as an alternative treatment. Recently, the gut microbiota has been increasingly linked to epilepsy in both animal models and in humans. With the aim of ameliorating spasms, we examine the potential of manipulating gut microbiota and tryptophan metabolism in a neonatal rat model of infantile spasms. This presentation will offer an overview of our latest findings on this topic of research.
