Campus Food Bank Christmas Hamper
This year the Campus Food Bank expects to give out about 90 Christmas hampers and are seeking assistance in filling them. All non-perishable donations are greatly appreciated.  The items required for an average size family are listed by clicking here. Marie Codner has once again placed boxes in the Feltham room and any donation would be appreciated. If you are giving cash and would like a receipt please let Marie know. December 7th is the deadline.

Congratulations and Welcome

Welcome to our new graduate students who have joined us this Fall:

  • Julia Chalker in Dr. Mailloux's lab
  • Shreyasi Sarkar in Dr. Berry's lab

We also would like to congratulate and welcome Biochemistry’s six Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee scholarship recipients who have joined us from India to pursue a full master’s degree at Memorial.  These students are part of a global community of Queen Elizabeth Scholars who will share knowledge, exchange ideas and collaborate on meaningful initiatives.  

The Queen Elizabeth II Scholars studying in Biochemistry are:

  • Arun Kumar, and Mrunal Dayma in Dr. Berry’s lab
  • Nidhi Kuksal in Dr. Mailloux’s lab
  • Darshana Brahmbhatt and Shrushti Shah in Dr. Cheema’s lab, and
  • Gagandeep Kaur in Dr. Bertolo’s lab

Congratulations as well to Martin Hurley who was recently awarded the School of Graduate Studies F.A. Aldrich Fellowship.  Martin is a Masters student in Dr. Brunton's lab. 

Dr. Rob Bertolo has hired a new Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Lee-Anne Huber.  Lee-Anne started in October and has a PhD in Animal Biosciences from the University of Guelph.

Congratulations to some of our faculty members who have received promotions.  Dr. Valerie Booth has been promoted to a Full Professor, and Dr. Sherri Christian and Dr. Rob Bertolo have received Tenure and been promoted to Associate Professors.

Good-Bye
Kangai Thaillayampalam is finishing his position as Research Assistant II on November 30th.  Kangai is moving to Calgary to start a new chapter in his life.  He will be missed and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
