Biochemistry had 39 MUCEP/ISWEP students working in our research labs, student labs, and resource centers during the Fall semester.

Congratulations to Anthony Akerele (Dr. Cheema’s lab) and Shreyasi Sarkar (Dr. Berry’s lab) who were both awarded scholarships from the International Student Resource Centre. Anthony was awarded the Graduate Academic Excellence Award and Shreyasi the ISRC Scholarship Award.

Congratulations to Tharindu Ruchira Senadheera (Dr. Dave/Dr. Shahidi) for receiving the Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology (CIFST) award as well as the Fereidoon Shahidi Fellowship Award from ISNFF (International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods) in Kobe, Japan.

Congratulations to Anthony Akerele and Indrayani Phadtare, both from Dr. Cheema's lab, on their recent awards at the 3 minute thesis competition. Anthony won first place overall and will be moving on to the regional competition. Indrayani won first place in the Faculty of Science competition.

Congratulations to Dalshini Kirupananthan (Dr. Brunton’s lab) and her fiancé, Parththeeban Murugathasan (recent Masters graduate in Civil Engineering here at MUN), the two returned home to Sri Lanka to get married on December 15th, 2019. We hope they enjoyed their time at home and wish them all the best in the future!

Congratulations to Abul Hossain (Sakil) (Dr.Dave/ Dr.Shahidi's lab) and his fiancée Saima Akthar who recently got married in Bangladesh. We wish them all the best in the future!

Congratulations to Dr. Margaret Brosnan who retired on December 31, 2019. A celebration to honour Dr. Brosnan will be held at 3pm in the Feltham Room (SN4006) on January 10th, 2020.
