Dr. Valerie Booth re-appointed to CRC Chair in Membrane Proteins

Dr. Valerie Booth was one of five Canada Research Chairs at Memorial whose re-appointment as Canada Research Chair in Proteomics (tier II) was announced this past week by Gary Goodyear, minister of state (science and technology).  This award recognizes Dr. Booth as an exceptional researcher who has been acknowledged by her peers as a potential leader in their field.

Dr. Booth, who is an Associate Professor in the Department, conducts research into the structure of proteins with a view to understanding respiratory distress and immune diseases and to assist those suffering from the diseases through the development of possible treatments.

Commenting on the five awards, Dr. Christopher Loomis, vice-president (research) of Memorial University, noted that “The Canada Research Chair program helps Memorial University recruit and retain emerging and internationally recognized leaders in research," by providing them “…with dedicated time to advance their innovative programs of research and to train the next generation of highly-qualified individuals on whom the future success and well-being of this province and country will depend. These results are a clear and tangible illustration of the world-class research that takes place every day at Memorial.”

Information on the other four awardees can be found in this article in the Memorial University news archive.
