Why Public Health at Memorial?

The Master of Public Health is an advanced program of study for students from various fields who are interested in a professional degree which will prepare them for practical work in a variety of public health practice settings. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates who are skilled in public health practice to contribute to promoting health and preventing illness and injury in their community.

The Nutrition/Dietetics stream is for students who have completed a bachelor's degree in the field of dietetics and wish to pursue a career in dietetics or community nutrition. It offers an opportunity for advanced academic study in the area of public health with a qualifying internship that will permit practice in the field of dietetics.

Description of program

The MPH program has two streams:

  • The Nutrition/Dietetics stream involves courses, a research project, and an internship, and can be completed in two years of full-time study.

  • The Population/Public Health stream involves courses and a capstone research project or practicum and can be completed in one year of full-time study. It is also available on a part-time basis.

Minimum admission requirements

  • MPH (Nutrition/Dietetics) – Bachelor's degree with a minimum average of 75% over the last 2 years of full-time study. Applicants must also have successfully completed an undergraduate statistics course and an undergraduate dietetics program accredited by Dietitians of Canada (DC) and provide written verification of same

  • MPH (Population/Public Health) – Bachelor's degree with a minimum average of 75% over the last 2 years of full-time study. Applicants must also have successfully completed an undergraduate statistics course
