Applied Geomatics

Why Applied Geomatics @ Memorial?

Memorial University's Master of Science in Applied Geomatics (MSc in AG) program is an innovative partnership between Memorial’s Grenfell Campus and College of the North Atlantic’s campus in Corner Brook. Students first enroll in the GIS Applications Specialist post-diploma program at the College of the North Atlantic (CNA). When students successfully complete this program, they will be awarded with a Diploma from the College of the North Atlantic. Students will then proceed onto the Master of Science in Applied Geomatics program at Memorial, where they will undertake a thesis based research project supervised by one of Grenfell’s diverse group of researchers. The program encourages research engagement with Grenfell’s provincial, federal and NGO research partners in the region. The program integrates broad and intense training in spatial data analysis with a focused research project that leads to production of a required thesis. This program will prepare students for any number of careers in environmental fields that require advanced level spatial analysis and its application to research. Successful completion of this program will lead to a Master of Science in applied geomatics degree from Memorial University.

Grenfell Campus is renowned for its environmental programming which enables students in its programs to draw upon a wide range of faculty with diverse environmental interests. Located in western Newfoundland, Grenfell is ideally placed to provide hands-on experiences in a diverse boreal environment. This includes wetlands, boreal forest, the Atlantic Ocean, numerous river systems, and sub-arctic tundra. With approximately 1,300 students, the university campus is an ideal size to allow students to work closely with faculty in pursuit of their studies.
