SUBJECT: The David Alexander Lecture to examine responsible government

Dr. Phillip Buckner, professor emeritus at the University of New Brunswick, will deliver the David Alexander Lecture titled The Transition to Responsible Government - British North America - Some Afterthoughts. The lecture is part of the Newfoundland Historical Society Symposium on Responsible Government running from April 21-23, 2005. Dr. Buckner is currently visiting professor of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London. He is also founding editor of the influential journal Acadiensis: The Journal of the Atlantic Region. The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 21, starting at 8 p.m. in Hampton Hall at the Marine Institute. Members of the public are invited to attend. A reception will follow the lecture.
