SUBJECT: Memorial to hold December 6 Vigil
DATE: Nov. 26
The annual December 6 Vigil will be held on Monday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Reid Theatre, Arts and Administration Building, Elizabeth Avenue, Memorial University. This is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day coincides with the sad anniversary of the 1989 Montréal Massacre when 14 women were killed at l’École Polytechnique. Free parking will be available in Lot15, across from the School of Music. Parking is also available in Lot15B for a $2 entry fee. Anti-violence display booths will be set up in the lobby of the building and refreshments will be provided following the ceremony.
The 2004 Vigil will begin with a performance by Dr. Michelle Cheramy, flutist, and a candlelight procession of student leaders. Members of the community and campus will dedicate their works in memory of the 14 women. The group Les Ms., under the direction of Dr. Valerie Long will perform, as well as students Lacy O’Connell and Adam Warren.
