SUBJECT: “It just brings me closer”: Reflections on Memorial Tattoos

DATE: Aug. 30

First Space Art Gallery in the Queen Elizabeth II Library at Memorial University is currently exhibiting “It just brings me closer”: Reflections on Memorial Tattoos.

The exhibition of photographs is a collaboration between photographer Dean Peckford and researchers Dr. Jennifer Buckle and Dr. Sonya Corbin Dwyer and is running until Friday, Oct. 14.

Twenty-two participants volunteered to participate in a research study that included one-to-one interviews and having their memorial tattoos photographed. The study set out to explore the meaning and purpose of memorial — also known as “remembrance”— tattoos.

First Space Gallery has shown work by emerging artists since 2004 and continues its commitment to foster creative expression that celebrates Memorial’s dynamic campus and its thriving surrounding community.
