SUBJECT: Memorial University presents Aboriginal Languages: Loss and Revitalization

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences ’ Dr. Marguerite MacKenzie, the 2013 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Impact Award winner, will speak about her work on language loss and revitalization in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with Memorial University linguists who work with Cree and Cayuga and on language acquisition.

Memorial University’s Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, has had a focus on Aboriginal languages from the early days of the department, which was established in 1968.

The forum is presented as part of Aboriginal Peoples Week: Truth and Reconciliation March 21-24, a series of events presented by faculty members, researchers, students, staff and guests, and organized by Memorial University’s Office of Aboriginal Affairs in partnership with the Aboriginal Resource Office.
