DATE: July 2
Academics, professionals and industry representatives will discuss information and communication technology (ICT) in St. John’s next week.
The 14th Canadian Workshop on Information Technology (CWIT 2015) will be held July 6-9. It will be the first time this biennial, research-oriented workshop will be held in Newfoundland.
The workshop brings together experts in ICT and highly renowned international scholars. Plenary speaker Monique Morrow, chief technology officer, Evangelist New Frontiers Development and Engineering at Cisco Systems, will describe the key attributes – passion and self-confidence – that are needed to impart to a new generation of engineers and computer scientists. Vahid Tarokh of Harvard University will present major new results in extreme value theory, along with its applications, along with Moe Win from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who will provide an overview of his latest results in the fundamental limits of network localization and navigation.
In the afternoon of July 8, an information session and panel discussion, Industry and Academia: The Roadmap for Open Innovation, will consider how collaboration between academia and industry can lead to technology advancement. This session would be of interest to anyone in engineering or technology seeking to successfully collaborate with academia. Registration is $80 and available online at www.cwit.ca/2015/registration.html.
