SUBJECT: Memorial University sociologist engaged in Sustainable Canada Dialogues
DATE: March 17
Memorial sociologist Dr. Mark Stoddart is part of a group of 60 scholars and scientists from all 10 Canadian provinces who have built a consensus around a plan of sustainability solutions to help the country successfully achieve transition to a low-carbon society.
The Sustainable Canada Dialogues (SCD) wishes to encourage public debate on climate policy in view of the upcoming federal election and the December 2015 climate summit in Paris. The SCD will unveil its climate action position paper on Wednesday, March 18, at the 2015 Americana International Trade Show on Environmental Technologies in Montreal, Que.
Dr. Stoddart is excited to be joining his SCD colleagues in Montreal.
“I've been researching the social-cultural dimensions of climate policy debate over the past several years, and it's been great to contribute my academic expertise to a project with the potential to have a meaningful impact on climate politics in Canada,” he said. “At the launch in Montreal, we'll be talking with policy-makers from across Canada, from various levels of government, and hope that our proposals can help shape debate and policy responses to climate change heading into our upcoming federal and provincial elections, as well as the Paris climate meetings later this year."
