REF NO.: 50
SUBJECT: Taking research from the ivory tower to the hospital floor
DATE: Oct. 20
How do you take research and scholarly work and apply it to your everyday nursing practice in hospitals and health care settings?
That’s the theme of this year’s Margaret McLean Lecture in Nursing entitled Activating Knowledge and Partnerships: Opening a Different Discourse on Scholarship in the main auditorium of the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m.
Dr. Margaret Harrison, professor emerita from Queen’s University School of Nursing, and an internationally recognized nursing scholar, will talk about integrating nursing scholarship into the daily work of practitioners.
Dr. Harrison says that it’s not enough to create knowledge in an ivory tower, and patients need to be assured that knowledge gets implemented on the ground. Based on her 20 years of field work in this area, she will share concrete examples of how nursing scholarship can be integrated into the daily work of practitioners in hospitals and clinics across the country.
This lecture will be valuable to nursing practitioners, and to any health care professional interested in practical ways of turning research into practice.
