SUBJECT: Public lecture to explore ships and iceberg risks

DATE: March 2

Did you ever wonder how ice behaves when it is hit by a 35,000 tonne steel ship? Dr. Claude Daley will talk about ships and how they perform (or don't perform) in ice and how ships can sometimes lose the battle. If you'd like to learn more about ice conditions, how navigation occurs, how risk arises, or how ice behaves, join us for this exciting event. Dr. Daley's free public lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. in Room EN-2006, located in the Engineering Building on Memorial's St. John's campus. All are welcome to attend.

Dr. Daley is the director of the Ocean Engineering Research Centre at Memorial University and a professor of ocean and naval architectural engineering. A reception will follow the lecture. This lecture is being sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Profession,l Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland.
