REF NO.: 68
SUBJECT: Public presentation on compromised parenting at Memorial Universitys School of Social Work
DATE: Nov. 23
Addictions and mental-health-compromised parenting is a major issue in the Western world, accounting for a high percentage of children and youth coming into care. One of the key concerns is the cognitive functioning of the parent(s).
Dr. Dennis Kimberley, professor at Memorials School of Social Work, will reflect on five in-depth case studies, and associated scholarship, to analyze how cognitive functioning of persons with concurrent disorders might compromise parenting capacity. Considerations for child protection, mental health and addictions professionals will be identified.
Dr. Kimberley has over 40 years of experience working with families with compounded problems of addiction, mental health and significantly compromised parenting capacity. He was a member of the Canadian expert panel on concurrent disorders and has been involved in related scholarship. Dr. Kimberley has presented and consulted nationally and internationally, and has been an expert witness in these areas.
