The end of another academic year is just around the corner and thousands of students are gearing up to graduate, write their final exams and concentrate on landing a job.
And with that, Memorial is handing set-to-graduate students a road map for the future, helping guide them in the right direction. The unique event is known as Grad Street Festival.
Directional road signage will direct students along the road in a progressive path as they complete the steps necessary to graduate, said Festival Co-ordinator Jessica Fisher, Division of Marketing and Communications. The festival atmosphere will be accentuated with entertainment and prizes during lunch.
The event will take over the third floor of the University Centre on Wednesday, March 2, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in The Landing (UC-3018) on the St. Johns campus.
A series of booths will provide students with information such as registering for convocation, how to receive convocation tickets and renting a cap and gown.
Students will also get the scoop on careers after graduation, discover the benefits of becoming Memorial University alumni, explore graduate programs and check out diploma framing, class rings, souvenirs and Memorial apparel.
The purpose of the event is to get students in the know and up-to-date on all information relevant to becoming a graduate, Ms. Fisher said.
The Division of Marketing and Communications is collaborating with a number of units and departments to organize the event for its fourth year, including Alumni Affairs and Development, the Registrars Office, Career Development and Experiential Learning, the School of Graduate Studies, the Marine Institute, the School of Social Work and the University Bookstore.
This event is so important because it ensures students are completing the necessary steps to becoming a graduate, said Ms. Fisher. They are able to meet face-to-face with the Memorial staff that makes all these things happen.
