REF NO.: 91

SUBJECT: PSAMemorial University to hold Dec. 6 Vigil:

DATE: Nov. 29

Every year, Memorial University commemorates the tragic anniversary of 1989’s Montreal Massacre when 14 women were killed because of their gender at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal, Que. The anniversary coincides with the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
This year, a vigil will be held on Monday, Dec. 6, in EN-2006 in the S. J. Carew (Engineering) Building. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a small reception in the main lobby. Free parking is available in lots 16 and 16A.
This year’s event will include a candlelight procession of 14 Memorial students who will represent the lives of the women who were lost. MHA and leader of the provincial NDP Lorraine Michael will give a keynote speech.
