SUBJECT: Memorial University presents screening of Archaeology and Traditional Knowledge in Labrador

The Newfoundland Archaeological Heritage Outreach Program (NAHOP) will present a video screening of Archaeology and Traditional Knowledge in Labrador on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at 8 p.m. in the Arts and Administration Building, rooms A-1043 and A-1046 located on Memorial's St. John's campus.
Archaeology and Traditional Knowledge in Labrador details the relationship between community members with archaeological research sites in a number of regions in Labrador. The video documentary profiles archaeology sites near Sheshatshiu, Cartwright, Makkovik, and the former community of Nachvak Fjord. In the video, community members and youth speak about the importance of their past and the skills they obtain in archaeology projects.
The video was produced by Rhonda Buckley, Newfoundland Archaeological Heritage Outreach Program, and Fred Hollinghurst, Distance Education Learning Technologies at Memorial University.
Archaeology and Traditional Knowledge in Labrador was funded with assistance from the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development; South Eastern Aurora Development Corporation; NAHOP; Parks Canada and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
The screening is open to the public. Parking is available in Lot 15. Media agencies are invited to send representatives. Reception to follow.
