SUBJECT: Grenfell: A public lecture titled "Politicizing Biology: Evolution and Belief."

DATE: Jan. 23

Dr. Darren Hynes will deliver a public lecture titled "Politicizing Biology: Evolution and Belief." The talk will be held at 4 p.m. in FC201 (Forest Centre) on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Politicizing Biology: Evolution and Belief
Natural selection may have played some role in the evolution of humans but does it explain every aspect of our being? Perhaps all that is selected for is some very general capacity for learning and acting that is manifest in various aspects of human behaviour. In terms of evolution perhaps what needs to be explained is just the evolution of our brain – a large and versatile organ that allowed us to substitute learning and culture for instinctive behaviour.
