REF NO.: 32
SUBJECT: Local Dialects and the Myth of Inferiority
DATE: Nov. 2
Local dialects often get a bad rap as inferior to the standard – or ‘correct’ – form of a language, but they can offer a valuable scientific and a cultural perspective. Prof. Alison Henry, a linguist in the School of Communication at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, will deliver a Henrietta Harvey Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 8 on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. All are welcome to attend “Local Dialects and the Myth of Inferiority” at 8 p.m., in the Science Building, room SN-2105. Free parking is available in Lot 15. A reception will follow.
