SUBJECT: PSA: Nuances of Blackness and the Academy

To commemorate Black History Month, you are invited to a public lecture featuring the University of Alberta’s Dr. Malinda Smith, a renowned scholar on equity, diversity and inclusion in the academy.

A panel discussion featuring Dr. Paul Banahene Adjei, Dr. Sulaimon Giwa and Dr. Delores Mullings of Memorial’s School of Social Work will follow the lecture.

Dr. Smith's lecture, titled Nuances of Blackness and the Academy, will explore the complexities, nuance and richness of Black scholarship across Canada and including Newfoundland and Labrador.
 
The panelists will offer an insightful discussion of their experiences of Blackness, anti-Blackness and racial (in)justice in academe.
 
The event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in PE-2001, the Physical Education building on Memorial’s St. John’s campus.

A reception will follow; all are welcome to attend.

Free parking will be available in lot 1A.
