REF NO.: 15

SUBJECT: PSA: Ecological film festival

DATE: November 1, 2017

For a New Earth (FANE), an initiative of Memorial University’s Department of Philosophy, will show a series of ecological films during the current academic year.

The first film, the critically acclaimed Voyage of Time, will be screened on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, room IIC-2001, on the St. John’s campus.

Voyage of Time is a 2016 American IMAX documentary film written and directed by Terrence Malick. It is a spectacular visualization of the birth and death of the universe. Malick worked on the film for more than 40 years and describes it as “one of my greatest dreams.” Richard Brody of The New Yorker writes: “Voyage of Time reaches toward a detached universality and subordinates human experience and human activity to the forms of nature. A film of hypnotic, ecstatic textures.”

The film will be preceded by an introduction of FANE’s mission.
