SUBJECT: Planned power outages on Memorial's St. John's campus

DATE: August 17, 2018

Planned electrical work scheduled this weekend at Memorial University’s St. John’s campus will significantly improve critical infrastructure.

A 37-hour power outage is scheduled from 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, until approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19. This outage is required to replace underground high voltage electrical cables and install and commission equipment to supply power to the Core Science Facility. A number of buildings on campus will be closed. Additionally, some buildings will experience temporary power loss during the outage.

Visitors will experience partial road and walkway closures in the areas of Livyers Loop and the courtyard between Facilities Management, Music and Science.

The outage will not impact the Tuckamore Festival performances scheduled at the School of Music.

A similar outage will take place next weekend, Aug. 25-26 to continue the replacement of underground high voltage electrical cables.

Memorial encourages students, faculty, staff and the public to be aware of this outage. If on campus, individuals should be observant to ensure personal safety.
