SUBJECT: PSA: SPARKS Literary Festival this weekend

Memorial University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is sponsoring the eighth annual SPARKS Literary Festival on Sunday, Jan. 22, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Suncor Energy Hall, School of Music.

The festival is divided into four sessions, each of which will consist of a mix of various genres and a combination of readings and discussion. Authors taking part include Colin Barrett, Andreae Callanan, Michael Crummey, Mary Dalton, Allison Graves, Matthew Hollett, Dave Paddon, Chad Pelley, Ed Riche, Susie Taylor, Kim Thúy, Tracey Waddleton, Russell Wangersky and Shannon Webb-Campbell.

Books will be available for sale and local magazines and publishers will display material. A petition protesting the recent provincial tax on books will also be circulated.

An evening reception will follow the day-long event. Admission is free and parking will be available in lot 15B.

In addition to the readings and exhibits, the winner of the annual Cox & Palmer SPARKS Creative Writing Award will be announced at the conclusion of the festival.
