SUBJECT: Program launch for improved quality care

Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine will announce the launch of Choosing Wisely N.L., on Thursday, Oct. 6. 

Choosing Wisely N.L. is a program to enhance appropriate use of health resources by helping clinicians and patients make smart and effective choices to ensure safe, high quality care.

This program will examine the utilization of health services, match their use with recommendations from Choose Wisely Canada and intervene to improve appropriate use of laboratory test, imaging and drugs.

Media are welcome to attend to learn more about the positive impact Choosing Wisely N.L. will have on health care services in this province.

There will be an opportunity to speak with spokespeople and partners within the program, including Dr. Patrick Parfrey, chief scientific officer for the Translational and Personalized Medicine Initiative. There will also be a member from the patient advisory council for the initiative available for interviews, as well as a representative from the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association and the provincial government.

The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Medical Education Centre atrium, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University’s St. John’s campus.
