SUBJECT: Memorial's business faculty to hand out awards to business leaders at Partners

Business leaders Barry Perry and Anne Whelan will be honoured by Memorial University’s Faculty of Business Administration at its 33rd annual Partners Celebration on May 8.

Mr. Perry, (B.Comm. (Co-op)(Hons.)’86, will receive the 2017 Alumni Honour Award. Ms. Whelan, (BA’90, MBA’02), will take home the P.J. Gardiner 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Mr. Perry is president and chief executive officer of Fortis Inc. He first joined Fortis Group in 2000 as vice-president of finance and chief financial officer of Newfoundland Power, and he’s previously served as vice-president of finance and chief financial officer of the corporation.

Ms. Whelan is president and chief executive officer of Seafair Capital Inc. She’s grown Seafair from a small home care agency to a large organization that now employs more than 800 people across three divisions: health and community care, child and youth care, and safety and industrial supply and service.

The award winners will be recognized at a networking reception and awards presentation that will include congratulatory addresses from Premier Dwight Ball and Memorial University President Dr. Gary Kachanoski.

Members of the media are invited to attend Partners, which is the business faculty’s annual celebration that brings together members of the faculty with students, donors, alumni and the business community to pay tribute to those who have achieved excellence in business while using their skills and expertise to contribute to their peers and communities.

Partners will begin with a networking reception at 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. The awards presentation will take place at 6 p.m.
