SUBJECT: Marine Institute to host fifth annual Model Boat Race

Miniature vessels designed by high school students from the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas will race across the Marine Institute’s (MI) flume tank on Saturday, Nov. 5, as part of the fifth annual Model Boat Race.

This year’s event will take place in the flume tank at MI’s Ridge Road campus from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Members of the media and the public are welcome to attend.

The competition will see 12 teams competing. The morning will be dedicated to the traditional buoy arrangement with teams navigating their boats through a slalom course, while the afternoon will be head-to-head racing.

Participating schools include Ascension Collegiate, Baltimore School Complex, Carbonear Collegiate, Clarenville High School, Crescent Collegiate, Holy Heart of Mary High School, Holy Trinity High School, Leary’s Brook Junior High, Marystown Central High School, O’Donel High School and Queen Elizabeth Regional High School.
