SUBJECT: Local students compete at Let's Talk Science Challenge

DATE: April 20, 2017

More than 120 Grade 6, 7 and 8 students from St. John’s and area schools will unite to explore, discover and compete at the Let’s Talk Science Challenge on April 24.

The event is hosted at Memorial University by Let’s Talk Science, an award-winning national charitable youth development organization.

The Let’s Talk Science Challenge is a fun, team-based competitive event that ignites students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and invites them to develop and apply their knowledge, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fun learning experience.

The Let’s Talk Science Challenge features special presentations, a quiz-show component and a hands-on mystery design challenge. Many students have been preparing since January. Let’s Talk Science organizes and runs the event with student volunteers, faculty and staff at Memorial University as part of the national Let’s Talk Science Outreach program.

Memorial University is one of 24 universities and colleges across Canada hosting the Let’s Talk Science Challenge in April and May. This year, more than 3,500 students will participate in the Let’s Talk Science Challenge from coast-to-coast.

Through its free programs, Let’s Talk Science supports youth by engaging them in hands-on STEM programs from kindergarten to Grade 12.

The Let’s Talk Science Challenge is made possible thanks to the generous support provided by the Government of Canada, CH2M Foundation, Hibernia Development and Management Ltd., Shaw Communications, Trottier Family Foundation and 3M Canada.
