SUBJECT: PSA: Anatomy will once again lend a hand in teaching

DATE: October 8, 2015

On Saturday, the dead will teach the living at Memorial University.

Because of its great success in May, the Faculty of Medicine will again be hosting the Body Works exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 1-5 p.m. in the atrium of the Medical Education Centre, adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre on the east side of Clinch Crescent in St. John’s.

On display will be a magnificent collection of anatomical specimens prepared by Dr. Shakti Chandra, a professor of anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine.

This is an opportunity to view real bones and organs that have been plastinated. It will be possible to see an artificial joint, healthy lungs and a smoker’s lungs, a heart with a coronary bypass, a cirrhotic liver and a normal liver. Whole bodies will also be displayed.

Members of the public are encouraged attend this free event and come meet Dr. Chandra, discover the world of plastination and learn about their own body—inside and out.
