SUBJECT: Making connections, sparking innovation and collaboration: Harris Centre holds five-year planning consultations

The Harris Centre at Memorial University will hold consultations to help determine priorities for its upcoming five-year strategic plan.
There are three public sessions planned for the coming months, as well as some targeted sessions with specific stakeholder groups and partners.
“The next five years will be challenging and interesting ones for the province,” said Dr. Rob Greenwood, executive director, Harris Centre. “In many ways, it’s the perfect time for the Harris Centre’s strategic planning process.”
As Memorial’s primary conduit for regional development and public policy, the centre connects the big questions in the province with the information, resources and people of the university to make a difference in Newfoundland and Labrador’s communities. Since its creation more than 11 years ago, the Harris Centre has held more than 180 public forums on issues of concern for the province and distributed more than $2 million in funding to approximately 170 applied research projects.
“Given the current economic climate in the province, we need to work strategically, across disciplines and sectors—making these connections and sparking this sort of innovation is exactly what the Harris Centre is all about,” said Dr. Greenwood. “But we’d like the input of our key stakeholders to help us figure out exactly what the priorities are, and where we should focus our energy and resources.”
The first of the sessions will be held in St. John’s on Wednesday, Feb. 3, followed by a session in Corner Brook on Tuesday, Feb.16, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Friday, March 18.
Details on each session and registration information are listed below. For anyone unable to attend the St. John’s session in person, it will be webcast and open to participants across the province. An online survey will also be available for those unable to attend the scheduled sessions.
