SUBJECT: Day 2 of MUNdays brings the love

Kindness Friday is one of the best days of the year at Memorial University.

Students, staff, faculty and alumni are coming together to celebrate spirit during the university’s annual fall celebrations, MUNdays. On the East Coast, I Love MUNdays and I Love MI MUNdays take place Oct. 15-19; on the West Coast, I Love Grenfell takes place Oct. 23-28.

The Memorial community started the day off with a scrumptious Pancake Breakfast and has been piling up non-perishable food items at the Kindness Friday Fill the Square food drive at Paton College. Can you hear our hearts beating? Kindness rules!

 

For Saturday, Oct. 17, highlights for media:

Today’s the day for students to get out in the community and engage in meaningful activities that benefit the community during Community Service Learning Day. Students will learn about giving back to their community by volunteering at organizations like Rainbow Riders and the Children’s Wish Foundation, develop their leadership skills, make a difference and have fun while doing it! See website at end of release for locations and times.

The Super TSC Night Concert at the Rock House on George Street in St. John’s is on! Grenfell Campus will get the night started right with a pre-party for Grenfell alumni at the Gypsy Tea Room in St. John’s. Local comedian Matt Wright will host the concert, which features The Secrets, Barry Canning and Billy and the Bruisers. Alumni and friends are all invited! Doors open at 7 p.m.

                                             

For Sunday, Oct. 18, highlights for media:

President Kachanoski will join in during MUNdays to mark some major milestones: alumni celebrating 50 years of graduation from the Parade Street and Elizabeth Avenue campuses will be recognized at the President’s Golden Celebration at the School of Music, St. John’s campus.

 

For Monday, Oct. 19, highlights for media:

Graduate students will bring their “A” game to the Three-Minute Thesis today. An 80,000-word thesis would take nine hours to present. Time allowed: 180 seconds. Countdown starts at 1 p.m. in the Junior Common Room at R. Gushue Hall!

Four outstanding Memorial University alumni will be recognized for excellence at the 34th annual Alumni Tribute Awards at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s from 6-9 p.m. Alumni Geoff Eaton, Dr. Rex Gibbons, Jessica Burry and Dr. Jawahar (Jay) Kalra will be feted in style!
