SUBJECT: PSA: Memorial University to honour exceptional alumni at Alumni Tribute Awards Ceremony

Join alumni and friends to celebrate the recipients of the 33rd annual Alumni Tribute Awards on Feb. 12 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s.

These awards recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to their communities, the university or their respective fields.

The Alumna of the Year Award will be presented to Jane Rowe, a graduate of Memorial’s Faculty of Business Administration who is currently the head of private equity and long-term equities groups with the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan. Ms. Rowe is one of Canada’s top financial leaders.

Robert Crosbie will receive the J.D. Eaton Award in recognition of his leadership and outstanding contributions to Memorial University that have enhanced the stature, reputation and overall strength of the university. Also an alumnus of the business faculty, Mr. Crosbie is the chairman of the board of St. John’s, N.L.-based Crosbie Group Ltd.

Mark O’Brien will receive the Horizon Award, recognizing exceptional achievement by alumni under the age of 35. The Faculty of Arts graduate is an actor and filmmaker and is most popular for playing the role of Des on the hit TV show Republic of Doyle

The Outstanding Community Service Award will be presented to Thomas Maddox, an alumnus of the faculties of arts and education. Mr. Maddox is a former educator and longtime mayor of King’s Cove, N.L.
