SUBJECT: PSA: Marine Institute public lecture to examine planning for coastal and ocean development

DATE: October 1, 2014

Gover Fugate, executive director, Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council, will present on Coastal and Ocean Development through Marine Spatial Planning on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Marine Institute.

Mr. Fugate will examine how Rhode Island has become one of the few jurisdictions in the world to successfully use and apply marine based zoning for active marine development while protecting environmental quality and natural assets.

In 2008, the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council undertook its most ambitious effort yet in marine planning. The plan has been called the “gold standard for marine spatial planning in the U.S.”

Learn how this plan has become the blueprint for state and federal waters off the coast of Rhode Island and what it can teach us in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Parking in Lots M1 and M2 is available and all are welcome to attend.
