SUBJECT: Memorial University's Botanical Garden celebrates Canada's National Tree Day

DATE: September 22, 2014

Memorial University’s Botanical Garden will celebrate Canada’s National Tree Day with a tree planting ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 12 p.m., at 306 Mount Scio Rd, St. John’s.

National Tree Day is the celebration of trees and forests in towns, cities and neighbourhoods across Canada. National Tree Day will serve as a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide – clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature. A garden walk emphasizing trees and shrubs will be conducted from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

For more than 20 years, Tree Canada has engaged communities, governments, corporations and individuals in the pursuit of a greener and healthier living environment for Canadians. Under the direction of its 13-member volunteer board of directors, the organization provides Canadians with education, technical expertise and resources to plant and care for urban and rural trees.

Tree Canada has planted nearly 80 million trees and greened more than 530 schoolyards across the country.
