SUBJECT: Enactus national champion to showcase World Cup presentation on Oct. 6

DATE: October 3, 2014

Note to editors:

National champion Enactus Memorial will showcase its award-winning presentation on Monday, Oct. 6, before representing Canada at the Enactus World Cup later this month in China.

Enactus Memorial, a group of undergraduate students representing the faculties of business and arts at Memorial University, earned the right to represent Canada through the impact of projects like Project Bottlepreneur, which empowers local unemployed and under employed individuals, and Project Stitch, a rehabilitation sewing program for Haitians with physical disabilities.

Enactus Memorial is one of the most successful Enactus teams in the world, having won seven national championships in nine years and the world cup in 2008. The team was also the world cup runner-up in 2007.

The showcase begins at 5:30 p.m. at Innovation Hall in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation on the St. John’s campus. Members of the public and media are invited to attend. A RSVP is requested to Carol Sullivan at carol@mun.ca. Parking is available in lot 15b and admission is free.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that mobilizes university students to develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Universities and colleges from across the world compete in regional and national competitions for the chance to demonstrate the impact of their outreach projects at the world championship each year.

The Enactus World Cup will take place from Oct. 22-25, 2014, in Beijing, China.
