SUBJECT: PSA: Hockey Night in Canada's Play On! plays out on St. John's campus for sixth year

DATE: June 19, 2014

Memorial University will host the St. John’s series of Hockey Night in Canada’s official Canadian street hockey tournament June 21-22.
Arctic Avenue from Sand Pits Road to Morrissey Road will be closed to vehicular traffic as of 6 p.m. on Friday, June 20, and not reopening until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. This may impact direct emergency vehicle access to the Health Sciences Centre and also result in a number of parking lots (16 and 16A) being full with anticipated crowds.
CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! is Canada’s largest sports festival.
There will be approximately 500 teams and 3,500 players competing throughout the weekend. With divisions for both genders, all ages and all skill levels, the program was designed to celebrate hockey in Canada. Now entering its sixth year in Newfoundland and Labrador, the national program will crown Canada’s greatest street hockey players live on CBC television during Hockey Day in Canada.
