SUBJECT: MUNdays fun continues on Day 2 of annual fall celebrations

DATE: October 18, 2013

I ♥ MUNdays continues today after a loud and happy start at yesterday’s Pancake Breakfast, Official Launch and Spirit Parade (congratulations to the Pakistani Student Association for the third straight year!) on the St. John’s campus.
Today, Friday, Oct. 18, love is all you need. Kindness Friday lasts all day long! The concept is simple: students, faculty, staff, alumni and retirees are invited to show their appreciation for someone or something. It's kindness – just because. The campus-wide kindness initiative, Fill the Square in front of Hatcher House at Paton College, will take place again this year. The Memorial community will bring non-perishable food items and gently used winter items from home to help make the square disappear!
Also all day today at a variety of locations are Faculty Reunions. This year, I ♥ MUNdays coincides with havin’ a time: Reunion 2013! Are you a MUN alum? Put yourself back in the picture and visit www.reunion.mun.ca for details!
Also today, the University Centre (UC) food court will transform into the UC Lounge. Everyone is invited to relax, kick back in one of the comfy couches and enjoy some live tunes by local DJs and maybe win a prize. The UC Lounge takes place 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
And from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (or until the food’s all gone!), Technical Services will host a MUNdays Barbecue outside the QEII Library. Hamburgers, hot dogs and cold drinks are going for loonies and toonies and will be sure to go fast. Get there early! All proceeds support the Roland "Rex" Carter Memorial Scholarship.
The good times will keep rolling tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 19, Community Service Learning Day. Memorial folks will do good and feel good by volunteering their time and energy for good causes. Then, from 2-7 p.m., the Sea-Hawks Tailgate Party will rock the field at King George V field at Quidi Vidi! First up, musical guest the Rolling Kings will take to the Sea-Hawks stage at 2 p.m.; then at 3 p.m. the Sea-Hawks women's soccer team take to the turf, followed by the men’s team at 5:15 p.m. to battle it out against the Dalhousie Tigers.
Starting at the women’s halftime and concluding after the game, fans will cheer on the best residence house mascot in the crowd favourite, Out Move Sammy the Sea-Hawk Dance Competition. Can Sammy the Sea-Hawk shake his tail feathers hard enough to out move and out groove all the challenging residence mascot contenders?
The fun keeps coming with a special havin’ a time: Reunion 2013 event. It’ll be a rockin’ good time when hundreds of alumni converge on George Street for Memorial University Presents: Super TSC Night at Club One! Memories of former concerts and parties held in the revered Thomson Student Centre (TSC) will be the topic of chatter at this 19-plus party. Featuring Abbey Road: A Tribute to the Beatles, the Barry Canning Band and Chris Kirby and the Marquee. Plus, hosts for the evening will be Mark O’Brien of Republic of Doyle fame and Phil Churchill from The Once! Doors open at 7 p.m. at Club One, George Street. Alumni and friends are all invited!
MUNdays highlights the diversity, ingenuity, excellence, kindness and community spirit that distinguish Memorial as one of the best post-secondary institutions in the world.
At the St. John’s and Marine Institute campuses, I ♥ MUNdays is slated to run Oct. 17-22. I ♥ Grenfell takes place Oct. 23-27.
