SUBJECT: Marine Institute of Memorial to celebrate 50th anniversary graduating class

The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland will celebrate its 50th anniversary graduating class in a ceremony on Friday, June 13.
The event will take place in the gymnasium of MI’s Ridge Road campus at 2 p.m.
During the event, the Marine Institute will graduate the first class of its diploma/degree of technology in ocean mapping. The program was established four years ago to produce outstanding graduates with in-depth knowledge of acoustic technology for the local and worldwide marine survey sector.
The ceremony will include a blessing to be conducted by Chief Mi’sel Joe of the Miawpukek First Nation as well as speakers Tony Cornect, parliamentary secretary to the minister of Advanced Education and Skills, and Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute).
