SUBJECT: Fall celebrations kicking off this week at Memorial University

Note to editors:
From Oct. 17-22, Memorial University will hold MUNdays, its yearly fall celebrations. At Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, festivities run Oct. 23-27.
Media representatives are invited to attend. Below is just a selection of story and photo ideas for journalists, photographers and videographers.
A full slate of events and activities are planned, encouraging students, staff, faculty and alumni to come together and celebrate Memorial. Website listings for all three campus’s I ♥ MUNdays schedules can be found at the end of this release.
 
St. John’s campus:
• I ♥ MUNdays launch
Thursday, Oct. 17, 9:15 a.m., Main Dining Hall, St. John’s campus
Join students, faculty and staff for a rowdy kick-off to this year’s activities.
 
• Spirit Parade
Thursday, Oct. 17, 9:30-10 a.m., starts at Main Dining Hall, St. John’s campus
Students will march through campus with flags held high with enthusiasm and pride to win $1,000.
 
• Sea-Hawks Tailgate Party and Out Move Sammy the Sea-Hawk dance competition
Saturday, Oct. 19, 2-7 p.m., King George V soccer pitch, Quidi Vidi, St. John’s
An American-style tailgate party will get students revved up for a Sea-Hawks double-header soccer match. Then, residence house mascots will try to “out dance” Sammy the Sea-Hawk, Memorial’s mascot.
 
• Super TSC Night at Mile One
Saturday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m., Club One, George Street
Memories of former concerts and parties held in the revered Thomson Student Centre (TSC) will be the focus as Memorial alumni get back together. Featuring Abbey Road: A Tribute to the Beatles, the Barry Canning Band and Chris Kirby and the Marquee, plus hosts Mark O’Brien of Republic of Doyle fame and Phil Churchill from The Once.
 
• Three-minute Thesis Challenge
Monday, Oct. 21, 3 p.m., The Landing, University Centre
Research students have three minutes on the clock to present a compelling and concise oration on their thesis to a live audience. A judging panel will award the top prize of $1,000.
 
• Health Challenge
Tuesday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Field House
The Wonderbolt Circus will perform to inspire the Memorial community to beat its 2012 record of 4,796 laps around the track.
 
Marine Institute:
 
• MI MUNdays kick-off and ’80s Theme Day
Thursday, Oct. 17, 1 p.m., Marine Institute lobby
Games and activities in the most outrageous ’80s-inspired clothing with great prizes up for grabs.
 
• Minute to Win It and Pyjama Day
Friday, Oct. 18, 12-2 p.m., Marine Institute cafeteria
Deceptively difficult 60-second challenges featuring household objects for a shot at a MI prize pack.
 
• MI 50th Anniversary Time Capsule and Sports Day
Tuesday, Oct. 22, 12-2 p.m., Marine Institute cafeteria
To celebrate MI’s 50th anniversary, MI is creating a time capsule to be buried on campus in 2014.
 
Grenfell Campus:
 
I ♥ Grenfell’s Official Launch and Spirit Parade kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Stay tuned for more details!
