SUBJECT: PSA: Memorial University alumnus Dr. Gwynne Dyer discusses The Triumph of Non-Violence

DATE: February 22, 2013

Alumnus, author, historian and independent journalist Dr. Gwynne Dyer will discuss The Triumph of Non-Violence on Thursday, Feb. 28, on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus.
Moderated by Kerry Hann, managing editor of The Telegram newspaper, Dr. Dyer’s lecture will explore the revolutions of the Arab Spring and what they will mean for the region and the rest of the world, how non-violent revolution has evolved and why it produces much better results than rival revolutionary techniques.
Dr. Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years, but he was originally trained as an historian. Born in Newfoundland, he received degrees from Canadian, American and British universities, finishing with a PhD in military and Middle Eastern history from the University of London.
The Triumph of Non-Violence takes place in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, room IIC-2001 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for alumni and friends and $5 for students and can be purchased in advance by contacting the Office of Alumni  Affairs and Development at 709-864-2313 or rsvpalumni@mun.ca.
