SUBJECT: Public meeting on chronic myeloid leukemia

DATE: March 29, 2012

Note to editors:
The NL Thrombosis, Blood and Immune Disorders Education and Research Project will host the public meeting Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML): A Good News Story for Cancer Researchers, on Monday, April 2, from 7-10 p.m. at the Johnson GEO CENTRE.
Speakers are Dr. Kuljit Grewal, chief of the Division of Adult Hematology/Oncology, Faculty of Medicine; and Cheryl-Anne Siomoneau, president of the CML Society of Canada.
This event will be of particular interest to individuals living with CML, their family and friends, health professionals especially laboratory technologists, cancer researchers and all those interested in learning more about how this type of cancer develops and how our understanding of cytogenetics at a molecular level has led to much improvement in therapy for this disorder. This illness is a great model for how basic science research can translate into saving and transforming patients’ lives.
This event is open to the public. For further information, visit www.med.mun.ca/NLBloodDisorders/.
