SUBJECT: PSA: MUNdays celebrations start with a bang at Memorial University

DATE: October 20, 2011

The official launch of MUNdays 2011 on the St. John’s campus got the party started with a pancake breakfast and a very spirited parade.
Students wore costumes and face paint, waved flags, carried banners and chanted and cheered their way through the St. John’s campus this morning during the Spirit Parade. In traditional dress of their home country, Team Pakistan blew the judges away with their pride and spirit to claim the first ever Spirit Parade award.
After the parade, students regrouped in the Field House for the most energetic Out Move Sammy competition yet. The Blackall Panthers mascot showcased his cat-like agility and awesome breakdancing moves to claim the top spot for their house.
The festivities continue on the St. John’s campus tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 21, with Kindness Friday. At this all-day event, everyone is invited to commit acts of kindness or bring in non-perishable food items to help the university community Fill the Square in front of Hatcher House at Paton College. Food donations will go to Memorial’s Campus Food Bank and the Community Food Sharing Association.
Remember to register your own kindness idea online at www.mun.ca/mundays and keep an eye out for cameos from local celebrities.
If you’re tired from all that kindness, drop into the University Centre food court for the UC Lounge. Relax, kick back in a comfy chair and enjoy some live music and entertainment all day long.
Many students will get their 15 seconds of fame at the fall convocation sessions in St. John’s at the Arts and Culture Centre. To all students receiving a degree, congratulations! Sessions begin at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
At 8 p.m. the Memorial University students’ union invites you to party it up one last time on campus at the Graduation Concert in the Breezeway Bar.
MUNdays highlights the diversity, ingenuity, excellence, kindness and community spirit that distinguish Memorial as one of the best post-secondary institutions in the world.
A full slate of events and activities are planned, encouraging students, staff, faculty and alumni to come together, celebrate Memorial and have an unforgettable time.
Complete schedules, including dates, locations and times for all events, are available online at www.mun.ca/mundays/schedule/,  www.swgc.mun.ca/celebrate/Pages/default.aspx, and www.mi.mun.ca/MIMUNdays/schedule/.
