SUBJECT: PSA: International Education Week 2011 at Memorial University

International Education Week 2011 runs from Nov. 15-18 and Memorial University is marking the occasion with a number of events themed Preserving our Diverse Cultures.
The Go Abroad Fair takes place today, Wednesday, at the University Centre from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This popular annual event provides information about opportunities to study, work and volunteer abroad. There will also be information on how students and others can get more involved with international communities and groups on campus and in the community.
Tonight, Wednesday evening, from 7-8 p.m. the All People in All Gardens exhibit at the Bruneau Centre – formerly the Inco Innovation Centre – features cultural and environmental groups showcasing the benefits of diversity and preservation. The Association for New Canadians, Aboriginal student groups, a Zimbabwean student group, the Botanical Gardens of Memorial University and other groups are among the participants.
This exhibit is followed with a talk at 8 p.m. by explorer, author and photographer Dr. Wade Davis.
The events cover not only cultures new to Newfoundland and Labrador. Tomorrow, Thursday, International Education Week focuses on the value of indigenous cultures with Aboriginal Diversity Day. There are a number of activities lined up including language sessions and drumming demonstrations. These events are happening at the University Centre, from 12-2 p.m.
