SUBJECT: Ocean Innovation lecture Oct. 17

Ocean Innovation 2010, in conjunction with The City of St. John’s, is pleased to kick-off OI-2010 and Ocean Week with a Sunday afternoon public lecture by Dr. Albert Bradley, principal engineer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Dr. Bradley will present Conception, Adventures and Demise of a Deep Sea Robot at The Delta Hotel and Conference Centre from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17.
            Hear the story of ABE, the Autonomous Benthic Explorer, a deep ocean exploration robot. Dr. Bradley’s lecture will explore some of ABE's many adventures and close scrapes as it evolved into an important tool for deep ocean research.   This event is open to the public and free of charge.
            Ocean Innovation, an initiative of The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University, is an annual conference that attracts significant national and international interest from a range of maritime market segments. This year’s theme, Underwater Vehicles, will bring together key representatives from government, industry and academia to discuss and debate the present and future state of underwater vehicle technology via four sub-themes – engineering, exploration, enterprise and education.
