SUBJECT: World-renowned cancer researcher to speak at Memorial

Media are invited to send representatives to a free public lecture taking place on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus on Monday, Sept. 28, beginning at 1 p.m., in Lecture Theatre B of the Health Sciences Centre.
Preeminent Canadian scientist and researcher Dr. Tak Mak will deliver the Gairdner Lecture at Memorial as part of the 50th anniversary of the Canada Gairdner Awards.
The title of the talk is Cancer Metabolism: Back to the Future.
Dr. Mak is among the world’s top medical researchers. He won a Canada Gairdner International Award in 1989 for his work in the genetics of immunology.
He is director of the Campbell Family Institute for Breast Cancer Research and a professor at the University of Toronto.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Gairdner Awards, 50 past winners, including 20 Nobel laureates, are presenting special lectures across the country.
The lecture is hosted by Memorial’s Faculty of Medicine.
